Balance. It’s what everyone desires. The modern couple looking for a once-in-a-lifetime destination wedding or honeymoon getaway can find that perfect blend of adventure and relaxation at Tabacón Resort. Located in the heart of Costa Rica at the base of the Arenal Volcano, Tabacón offers ample opportunities for adventure including rainforest zip-lining, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, nighttime rainforest hikes and waterfall excursions. Their 5-Star accommodations paired with natural thermal springs, exquisite dining and luxurious spa services then allow a couple to unwind in style from a day of thrilling activities. Set within the confines of the rainforest Tabacón Resort is in close proximity to adventure for all levels of thrill seekers.

Nature lovers cannot miss taking part in activities that showcase the natural wonder of this gorgeous country. A daytime horseback ride meandering through the foothills surrounding the volcano is a must-do. The views of the volcano and the lush scenery are utterly breathtaking. However, a night hike may provide even better opportunities to spot nocturnal mammals that are often elusive during the day. Armed with a flashlight and ample determination, night time is the right time to spot one of Costa Rica’s symbolic creatures such as a red-eyed tree frog or a sloth. A short ride outside of the resort gets you to La Fortuna where a majestic waterfall plummets to a clear pool of water that is ideal for swimming after a 500-step hike down a scenic path to reach it.

Looking to take nature up a notch? Jacamar Naturalist Tours take guests on an adventure of a lifetime. Venture out to the top of the canopy for an exhilarating zip-line ride through the rainforest. Then, swing through the rainforest like Tarzan swing to get the full jungle experience. Get closer to nature by hitting the rapids on a whitewater raft tour down the Rio Toro and possibly witness tropical birds and exotic animals winding through the canyons.

Days filled with adventure build up an appetite. Explore a local soda in La Fortuna for comidas típicas (authentic Costa Rican cuisine) or venture back to the gorgeous confines of Tabacón for a casual meal at their restaurant, Ave del Paraíso, for Tabacón’s delicious take on Costa Rica’s famous dish, casado típico criollo, which is the customary meal a wife would make for her husband. A more relaxing option would include donning swimwear and slipping up to the Arenal Pool Bar where small bites such as ceviche and guacamole pair well a libation made from Costa Rica’s signature sugar cane alcohol, guaro. Ah, pura vida!

Relaxation is what brings Tabacón Resort its renown. Arenal Volcano’s natural thermal springs flow through the resort providing guests with a luxurious locale to warm weary muscles that have been worked from a day of energetic fun. Meander through the spring’s pathways to a literal Shangri-la. The Shangri-la Gardens are an exclusive experience for only Tabacón’s adult guests. Its privacy, replete with cascading falls and the steamy springs, sets the stage for romantic interludes. The thermal springs are within close proximity to the resort’s luxurious spa accommodations where Costa Rica’s natural environment is incorporated into each spa treatment. From the local products infused into the massage oils to the outdoor bungalows, couples can escape to even deeper tranquility. ‘The Idyllic’ is the quintessential couples massage bringing the soothing sounds of the rainforest into the ultimate bonding experience. Be sure to request to take a plunge in a relaxing milk bath following the massage. While basking in the outdoor tub, you may even spot an exotic monkey lurking above you in the natural canopy.

Top off your dreamy experience with a Private Gala Dinner where your personal chef freshly prepares a gourmet feast in an open air rainforest bungalow lit by shimmering candles. Each course is paired with sumptuous wines and champagnes that bring out the flavors of each divine dish. A romantic meal is the ideal way to create a lifetime of memories from your luxurious experience at Tabacón.

Whether you’re seeking the thrill of outdoor adventure or a relaxing retreat Tabacón provides the perfect balance.

Love Story:
Jackie and Harry were neighbors that lived across the street from each other for 5 years before a fateful night when Jackie left her car lights on and Harry rushed over to let her know, brought them together. Jackie returned the kind gesture with some concert tickets and soon after they found themselves inseparable. Harry proposed underwater when the adventurous couple was scuba diving on vacation in Maui.

Love Note:
They decided on a destination wedding after having a blast attending a friends, and Hawaii being a special place for the two of them, the location was a no brainer. They decided the St. Regis Princeville on Kauai could provide the perfect back drop to their slightly eclectic, intimate celebration. The bride decided to have a more personal gathering with a guest list of only 14 to be able to spoil her loved ones with a magical day and really enjoy each others company on this special occasion. With the bride being a florist, there were high standards for the décor at this luxurious bohemian wedding, so she hired wedding planners & designers Moana Events to pull her vision together. The ceremony took place oceanfront under a tree draped in a tropical garland of flowers including brightly colored protea, bougainvillea, peonies, dahlias, roses, and hydrangea. The aisle was created with ombré petals matching the colors of the floral arrangements and laid out like a sunset leading them to the altar.

Love Story:
Markus and Megan grew up half a world apart, but they found one another through social networking in 2004 and remained friends for years. In 2012, they decided it was time to meet face to face and begin the life together that they had planned for so long. Markus traveled from England to Southern California to sweep Megan off her feet, which he very well did. They traveled back and forth for a few years until Markus knelt down on one knee to ask Megan the question she always dreamt he would ask. Markus proposed on New Year’s Eve of 2014 in the privacy of their home.

Love Note:
The couple has always enjoyed traveling to different countries. Their favorite country is Italy for its romance and old world charm. It is for this reason that they planned to have an old-fashioned, Italian inspired wedding. They traveled to Venice, Italy for their honeymoon and cherished every moment together walking alongside the Venetian canals, hand in hand.
