LOVE STORY
Pete and Sanaz met in Calgary, Canada in late October 2011 at a tapas lounge when the merging of two large tables sparked a conversation between the two.  She was instantly hooked when the Canadian man offered winter driving lessons to a California girl.

Dress of the Day | Augusta Jones “Chloe”

Augusta Jones

Augusta Jones’ “Chloe” gown is a nod to the 20s and reminds us of a gown we’d like to see Lady Mary wearing in this season of Downton Abbey!

Augusta Jones gowns are available at The White Flower Bridal Boutique in San Diego.

LOVE STORY
While Lorin was researching nursing schools, her father suggested she speak with her neighbor about her options. Their neighbor, who happened to be Jason’s mother, suggested that Lorin speak with Jason for advice instead because she had been out of school for a while. It took some time before they finally met, but once they did they both knew immediately that they were meant to be.

I started my business in…
The summer of 2011.

This is how it came to be…
For years I helped family and friends with their wedding day details. I even spent days hand cutting 150 favor boxes for my cousin. Then in 2010 when my sister got engaged, she wanted everything. At the time she was living in Atlanta, so planning was at times challenging but we made it work. I did her save the dates, invitations, wedding weekend welcome baskets with coffee, biscotti, trail mix, things to do in the area, and s’mores kits for the night before, for the big day I designed a marriage certificate guest book, directional signage, reception menus, home brewed ale bottle labels, and handmade chocolate truffles as wedding favors. It was so much fun coming up with ideas and designs for every detail. The next year is when I made the leap and started AmpersandInk Designs.

A little bit about my background…
Growing up my sister and I would “play” hotel, restaurant, movie theater with hotel check-in, room numbers, menus, movie tickets and even a concession stand.  Paper details and design were always my thing. After high school, I worked at a bookstore and I was in charge of the decor and window displays. Then I started working for my church doing our weekly handouts and flyers. This is where I fell in love with graphic design. I just sat down one day and started playing with photoshop and illustrator. When I got stuck I would find a how to video podcast. I’ve been doing graphics ever since. My passions is for print, but I have done graphics for websites and blogs for my close friends.

I find inspiration…
Everywhere. Disneyland, pinterest, wedding blogs, books, movies, music and in the couples I design for.

The flower and decor elements I never tire of are…
I love the use of succulents in florals and burlap and personal details or heirlooms.

The perfect wedding day signature cocktail…
Something with Southern Comfort and maybe watermelon, blackberries or pomegranate in a frosted martini glass

My design philosophy…
Every design should be as unique as the couple it represents. As I always tell my couples, “There are no cookie cutter designs or one size fits all here.”

My favorite wedding color palette combination is…
Cocoa brown, blush pink and lucite or mint green.

One or two words to describe my style…
Design style: ever changing. Personal style: hippie gypsy.

Something every couple should know after they get engaged…
Figure out what is most important to you, individually and together. There are too many great ideas and it can get overwhelming, so try to focus on just 2-3. Remember, at the end of the day this is your wedding and it should be a reflection of you as a couple.

My best advice to couples for the big day…
Breathe. Take it all in. Then celebrate and enjoy every moment.

If I could have any other occupation in the world, I would…
It might seem silly, but I would love to run a coffee shop/book exchange. I love the smell of coffee, baked goods, books and watching people as they go about their everyday lives.

My favorite sports team is…
Dodgers. I am a true blue Dodger fan all the way. I miss the Tommy Lasorda, Hershiser, Scioscia, Piazza days, but the team is shaping up pretty good the past few years.

If I could have front row seats to any event or show, I would see…
Just because of the last question… I’d say the Dodgers in a World Series game. But, I’d love to see a Broadway show in New York: Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera or Wicked

My biggest pet peeve is…
Really bad book covers.

The tastiest food and drink indulgences are…
Italian Nachos at Johnny Carino’s and the Black Orchid cocktail at Yard House.

The best day of my life…
I don’t have one best day, just great moments. When my friends brought their baby home from Korea, the first time I went to Disneyland by myself, being there when my best friend gave birth to her girls, the weekend my sister got married, going to Disneyland with my friend’s kids, when I saw my paper details featured on 100 Layer Cake and Green Wedding Shoes, when Tori Spelling featured one of my etsy items on her blog… for me life is a collection of great moments.

My favorite staycation spot is…
Disneyland. Sometimes I’ll go just for the shows or just to walk around. It’s my great escape when I am stuck in a rut and need fresh inspiration. “To all that come to this happy place, welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” – Walt Disney, 1955

If money were no object, I would…
Help women and children who have been abandoned or exploited. I would give them a safe place to live and help them learn and develop marketable skills and healthy relationships that will support and make them stronger for life.

I believe…
Every life event should be celebrated! Have a party, go somewhere special and always have dessert!

Something most people don’t know about me…
I’ve never really had a boyfriend, and I count the number of dates I’ve been on on 1 hand.
